This calculator uses the long-standing drag-racing equations popularized by Patrick Hale and Roger Huntington. They estimate elapsed time and trap speed from just power-to-weight:
- ¼-mile ET (s) ≈ 6.290 × (weight ÷ hp)1/3
- Trap speed (mph) ≈ 234 × (hp ÷ weight)1/3
- 0-60 (s) ≈ derived from power-to-weight with a drivetrain launch factor (AWD launches best, FWD worst)
Weight is the car plus driver and fuel. Horsepower is at the flywheel — if you enter a wheel-dyno figure, we gross it up ~15% for drivetrain loss. Because these ignore tires, traction, gearing, temperature, and driver skill, treat every result as a starting point, not a promise. The only way to know your car's true numbers is to measure them.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is a 0-60 calculator?
A power-and-weight estimate is a ballpark. Real 0-60 swings a second or more on launch, tires, traction, temperature, and altitude. Use it to set expectations, then measure the real thing with an OBD2 timer.
Wheel horsepower or crank horsepower?
The formulas assume crank (flywheel) hp. If you only have a wheel figure, pick "at the wheels" and we add back ~15% for drivetrain loss.
