Fuel Rail/System Pressure — Too Low
What P0087 means
P0087 means the fuel pressure sensor is reporting less pressure than the ECM expects. On modern gasoline direct-injection and diesel engines the fuel system runs at very high pressure; when the pump, filter, or regulator can't maintain the commanded rail pressure, the engine starves for fuel and P0087 sets.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on, often flashing under load
- Hard starting, long cranking, or no-start
- Stalling, especially under acceleration or load
- Hesitation, misfire, or a sudden loss of power / limp mode
- Engine surging at highway speed

- Clogged fuel filter or restricted fuel line
