Tools & Detailing
The short answer
The best microfiber towels for cars are plush, high-GSM, edgeless cloths like the Chemical Guys Happy Ending Edgeless Towel and The Rag Company Eagle Edgeless 500, which lift dirt and polish paint without leaving swirl marks.
A great microfiber towel is the single most underrated detailing tool — it's what protects your clear coat every time you wipe, dry, or buff. Cheap towels with rough stitched edges cause most of the fine swirl marks you see in sunlight. Here are the towels professional detailers actually trust.

The Rag Company Eagle Edgeless 500
A favorite among professional detailers for buffing off waxes, sealants, and quick detailers. The plush, edgeless design glides over paint without marring.
A thick, fluffy edgeless towel designed for streak-free wipe-downs of waxes and sealants. Great all-around interior and exterior cloth.
A large, deep-pile drying towel that soaks up sheeting water fast so you can dry an entire vehicle without reaching for a second cloth.
An affordable bulk pack for dirty jobs like wheels, engine bays, and interior cleanup where you don't want to risk your premium towels.
Wash microfiber towels separately from cotton in warm water with a mild detergent, and skip the fabric softener — softener coats the fibers and destroys their grabbing power. Tumble dry on low or air dry.
For paint work, look for 400 GSM or higher — these plush towels are gentler and more absorbent. Lower-GSM towels in the 300 range are fine for interiors, glass, and wheels.
Yes. Keep separate, color-coded towels for paint, glass, interior, and wheels. Wheel grit transferred onto paint towels is one of the most common causes of swirl marks.
For paintwork, yes — the stitched polyester border on traditional towels is harder than your clear coat and can leave fine scratches. Edgeless or silk-banded towels eliminate that risk.
A quality towel can last 100+ washes if cared for properly. Retire any towel that feels stiff, scratchy, or has loose threads, and downgrade older paint towels to wheel or engine duty.
