Torqued to Spec. Checked It Twice.

A click-type torque wrench over the line every careful mechanic lives by. Santa checks the list twice; you check the lug nuts twice.

The torque wrench is drawn the way it actually looks on the bench: ratchet head and square drive, a red scale in the body window, a knurled grip. The type is tall and condensed, with CHECKED IT TWICE. in red.

It is the most year-round piece in the drop. Take away the MERRY CHRISTMAS line and it is simply true.

Best for: the person who re-torques the wheels after the tire shop did, and anyone who owns more than one torque wrench.

Dashing Through the Snow. Traction Control Off.

The traction-control-off lamp, lit in amber, over the carol line every winter driver has thought about in an empty parking lot.

The icon is the real dash symbol: a car from behind with two squiggly skid trails under it, beside OFF. It is the lamp that comes on when you hold the button down on purpose.

A joke that lands with anyone who has driven in snow, and a wink to the ones who went looking for it.

Best for: winter drivers, rally fans, and the friend who knows exactly which button turns the nanny off.

Jingle Bolts

A stocking stuffed with the bolts, nut and socket left over after the last job. Every mechanic has a coffee can of these.

The stocking has a green cuff and the leftovers spilling out of the top: two bolts, a socket and a red nut. Underneath: JINGLE BOLTS, and LEFT OVER FROM THE LAST JOB.

It is also an actual stocking, printed on a dark field so it hangs as well as it reads.

Best for: anyone who has finished a job with parts to spare and decided not to think about it.

The AXLY Christmas Sweater

Knitted, not printed: wrenches and spark plugs in the yarn, with a small AXLY robot on the left chest. Three patterns, each in green, red or black, for adults, kids and the shop dog.

Crossed Wrenches is a field of wrench crests edge to edge. Wrench & Plug is a lattice of wrenches and spark plugs. Fair Isle Garage is the classic banded sweater, rebuilt from plugs, wrenches and snowflakes.

Green and red versions use three yarns; the black versions are black and white with a red or green collar and cuffs.

Best for: the holiday party, matching family photos, and dogs who supervise oil changes.

Beanies

A knitted beanie in the Crossed Wrenches pattern to match the sweaters, and a cuffed beanie with the AXLY robot embroidered on the front.

Best for: cold garages and early starts.

Under the Tree

Wrapping paper, a stocking and a tree skirt in the Wrench & Plug pattern, so the presents look like they came from the garage.

Best for: the garage tree, and wrapping a torque wrench so it is not obvious.

Christmas gifts by budget

Christmas gift ideas by budget and by person

Under $25: ornaments at $14, mugs at $20, wrapping paper at $24. The Jingle Bolts ornament is the easiest yes in the drop.

For the mechanic: Torqued to Spec on a hoodie, and a 40 oz travel mug that survives the shop.

For the holiday party: an ugly sweater. Crossed Wrenches in green is the loudest; the black Fair Isle Garage is the one people wear after Christmas too.

For the whole family: matching sweaters in adult and kids’ sizes, plus a dog sweater, in the same pattern and colour.

Why car people get the best gifts wrong

Most car-guy gifts are generic: a tire gauge, a novelty air freshener. The things people who work on their own cars actually laugh at are specific: re-torquing lug nuts, the traction-control button, the coffee can of leftover bolts. That is what this drop is built from. If the car itself needs a gift, AXLY reads its check engine code on an iPhone through a Bluetooth OBD2 adapter. Here is how it works.

Christmas drop questions

When do I need to order to get it by Christmas?

Order shirts, mugs, ornaments, stockings and wrapping paper by December 12 for US delivery before Christmas. Knitted sweaters and beanies are made to order overseas and take longer: order those by December 1.

What is a good Christmas gift for a car guy?

Something that shows you know what they actually do in the garage. Torqued to Spec and Traction Control Off are inside jokes any car person gets, the ugly sweaters are for the party, and ornaments ($14), mugs ($20) and wrapping paper ($24) cover the stocking-stuffer budget.

Are the ugly sweaters knitted or printed?

Knitted. The wrenches, spark plugs and robot are knit into the sweater in yarn, not printed on top, in green, red or black with contrasting trim.

Do you have matching family sweaters?

Yes. Every adult sweater pattern and colour comes in kids’ sizes 4 to 14, and three of them come as dog sweaters.

What sizes do the sweaters come in?

Adult sweaters run XS to 3XL with a unisex fit (2XL and 3XL cost a little more). Kids’ sweaters run 4–5 to 13–14. Dog sweaters run 2XS to 2XL; measure chest and back length first.

Is shipping free?

Yes. Shipping is free on every order to the US.

What is AXLY?

AXLY is an iPhone app that reads your car’s check engine codes through a Bluetooth OBD2 adapter and explains them in plain English, with an AI mechanic you can ask follow-up questions. The shop is merch for the people who use it.
